MSC SEASON OPENER

The Milwaukee Stock Car Racing Association began their racing season at Columbus 151 Speedway Friday May 18th.The vintage modifieds put on a great show just like the former cars and drivers that raced on the Columbus asphalt in the 50’s and 60’s .Names like Miles Melius, Billy Johnson, Dick Duerst, Kato Theisen, and Lee Weber, were heard from those who remember the “good old days “. Terry Pulver of Wyocena, WI won the 10 lap heat race in the former Billy “The Cat” Johnson number 5. In the feature race a three way battle for the lead was won by Bill Schmitz of Mukwonago, WI. Driving the Glen Haddy built, Pogo style super modified.  Terry Pulver and Brian Titel crossed the line second and third. Brian drives the car of six time Plymouth track champion Ken Markwardt. As is the custom in the MSC, Bill Schmitz gave his feature win trophy to a youngster from the grandstand. Pictures were taken in the winners circle with Bill holding the checkered flag and handing his trophy to a smiling young man.

The MSC races next at the Oshkosh Speedzone on June 8th.

MSC Racing Results, July 7, 2007, Thunder Hill, Sturgeon Bay, WI

Seven cars made the long trip to Sturgeon Bay Sat. July 7th. After showing the cars behind the grandstands before the races, Ralph Pulver's car developed clutch problems, so he had to scratch for the rest of the night. The heat race lined up with Jerry Bergdorf on the pole, Brian Titel on the outside. Second row was Corey Pieper inside with Doug Drews outside. The third row was Bill Behm inside and Bill Schmitz outside.

Bergdorf and Titel fought for the lead with Schmitz in hot pursuit. Corey Pieper took off after Schmitz with Bill Behm on his tail. After eight laps it was the yellow #12 of Jerry Bergdorf the winner  ,Bill Schmitz in the #15 second ,Brian Titel in the red #K5 third , Corey Pieper in the orange #55 forth, Bill Behm in the blue #55 fifth, and Doug Drews in the turquoise # 57 sixth.

With the invert from the heat race, the feature race lined up Drews – Behm, Pieper- Titel, and Schmitz- Bergdorf. On the start Behm took the lead with Pieper and Titel fighting for second. Bill Schmitz and Jerry Bergdorf dicing third. About a third of the way through the 15 lap feature, Pieper spun on black dry patch in the front stretch, Brian Titel tried to spin his car around Pieper, but they tangled rear wheels and both were out of the race. Doug Drew’s car over heated so he was scratched as well. On the restart both Schmitz and Bergdorf were able to get by Behm. With these three cars on the track, some of the fastest laps of the year were turned looking for a win. At the checkered flag it was Bill Schmitz 1st, Jerry Bergdorf 2nd, and Bill Behm 3rd.

The next MSC race is Sat. Aug. 18th at 141 Speedway and then Aug. 19th at Seymour. Let’s have a good turn out for these events.

September 8, 2007 - Dells Raceway Park, Wisconsin Dells

This special night was organized by Bob Zynda and saw a total of 10 cars show up to race. The #66 of Merlin Armstrong was scratched at practice for a broken transmission. So there were 9 cars that took the green flag for the 15 Lap Heat Race.

The race ended under yellow after lap 13 when the driver of the #7, Joel Wilman, and the #Y4, Dave Waldron, had an on-track mishap with the #5 of Terry Pulver taking the checkered flag.

For the 10 lap Feature, the #Y4 was able to take the green but the #7 was not. At about lap 7 the #Y4 and the #12 (Jerry Bergdorf) tangled in turns 1 & 2 which put the #22 (Mark Crump) in the lead. In turns 3 & 4, on the last lap, the #Y4 caught the #22. The #22 spun around which left the #Y4 to take the checkered flag.

Participants included: #5-Terry Pulver, #7-Joel Wilman, #12-Jerry Bergdorf, #22-Mark Crump, #26-Ralph Pulver, #55-Shannon Bergdorf, #75-Bill Behm, #66-Merlin Armstrong, #90-Bob Zynda, #Y4-Dave Waldron
